Built circa 1896, the first owners of the home were Frank C. Freyermuth and Elizabeth Bast Freyermuth. Frank was a cabinetmaker, a salesman for art companies, and the proprietor of an art store located at 114 N. Michigan. Architect Ennis R. Austin and his wife Elsie Austin lived in the home in the 1920s.
