Built prior to 1899, this house was an investment property. Dennis (Dewey) Shoemaker, a tea salesman, rented the house for a short time and resided there with his wife Agnes and son Ellsworth. George H. Leslie, an engineer, purchased the house by 1906. He and his wife Florence raised their four daughters, Florence, Consuela, Blanche, and Rita.
