This house was built just before the turn of the century for A. J. and Elizabeth Purucker. They raised three children, Susie, Ira and Matilda. By 1906, Ernest I. Kizer had purchased the house and lived there with his wife Elmira and son John. Ernest taught at South Bend High School, managed the boys' football and basketball teams, and became the school's assistant principal by 1911. He resided in this house until 1930.
