Alvin D. Hodson, son of George Hodson, and Alvin's wife, Anna, purchased this property from Edward Chapin and were residing at this address by 1886. Alvin worked for several South Bend lumber companies, including Hodson, Stanfield and Company, the South Bend Lumber Co. and the Indiana Lumber and Manufacturing Company. He and Anna raised five children and had sold their home to Mrs. Amelia J. McCombs by 1903.
