James and Emma Camper purchased this property from Edward Chapin in 1884 and had this house built by 1886. Camper was a gunsmith and co-owner of Camper and Stedman, a sporting goods and bicycle store in South Bend. His partner, F. Lewis Stedman, lived at 804 and 730 Park Avenue. Emma Camper lived in the home until 1932.
