William H. Slusser purchased lot 55 at Chapin Place by 1890 and built the house soon afterward for his large family. He and his wife, Cora, raised their five children, May, Walter, Grace, Ethel and Leah. The Slussers sold the house to Dr. J. D. Kaple by 1903.
