It is unknown who constructed this house built c. 1860, which was originally part of Colonel Lathrop M. Taylor's farm. Colonel Taylor was a co-founder of South Bend and an influential landowner. At the time of his death, his daughter, Mary Nicar, sold the house to Jacob S. Kerner, a fireman.
