William H. Harper, a building contractor, built this house in 1889, and it was sold to Oliver and Catherine Brown in 1892. Mr. Brown was employed by the Northern Indiana Gas and Electric Company. Upon their deaths, the property was bought by Victoria Smythe in 1939. The second floor was added in 1940.
