William and Ella Carskaddon purchased this lot from Peter Stocker, Ella's father, and had a house built on the property by 1883. William was the secretary of the South Bend Toy Company and later worked for the South Bend Pulley Company. By 1910, furniture maker J. Willard Shidler and his wife Charlotte had purchased the Queen Anne home and resided there until 1938.
