South Bend architect Ernest W. Young designed this home that was originally sited at 312 W. Marion. It was moved to 809 Colfax around 1979. The house is an excellent and unusual example of the Prairie School style. The use of stucco and wood trim, the horizontal emphasis, the banding of windows, and the hipped roof are all typical features of this style. The bracketed door hood and pergola with heavy piers add to the visual appeal and make this house a notable expression of the Prairie School.
