This house was constructed for Samuel Bowman, a successful farmer who retired to South Bend. His family were St. Joseph County pioneers. From 1880 through 1890, Mr. Bowman was a county commissioner. The house was used as a rental until 1905, when it was sold to Bowman's daughter.
