The Edmund Meagher House, built in 1884, offers a visually stimulating example of the Stick Style. The Stick Style was a transitional style bridging the Gothic Revival and Queen Anne styles that celebrated ornamental carpentry and colorful design. Mr. Meagher, an immigrant from Ireland, relocated to Ligonier and then to South Bend, where he worked his way up to the role of Vice President at the Oliver Chilled Plow Works. The Meaghers lived in 730 W. Washington until Mr. Meagher's death in 1886. The home was then purchased by Dr. Daugherty who utilized the home as his medical office and private residence. The Daughertys added an extension to the rear of the home in the 1920s. Descendants of Dr. Daugherty lived in the home until the 1950s. Soon after, it was converted into a boarding house, and later, apartments. It was purchased in 2005 and converted back to a single-family residence.
