This house was constructed in 1888 by Samuel Leeper, Sr. as a wedding present for his son Samuel Leeper, Jr. and his new bride, Della Earl. Samuel Sr. was a pioneer of St. Joseph County with a large farm north of the river. Samuel Jr. manufactured bricks in a brickyard he opened near his house.
